The Beta Site is one of Earth's offworld outposts, and is situated deep within Free Jaffa space for protection against attack. Although originally little more than a fallback position should the Alpha Site be compromised, the Ori Crusade saw that base destroyed, and the onset of the Der'kal Invasion sapped resources that would be needed to construct a new one. As such, the Beta Site took on its responsibilities, and when Earth itself fell to the alien advance, over 10,000 refugees were evacuated to the base, making it the sole independent Tau'ri planet in the galaxy. A year and a half later, though, humanity would take back its homeworld, and the Beta Site resumed its regular duties as a simple offworld garrison.
